- Proposal
- Instructions for submission
- Paper Presentations:
When your proposal is accepted as a paper presentation, you are required to write a full paper until March, 17th, 2008. A full paper consists of an abstract (300 words, maximum) and a paper (4000 words maximum, excluding references) that has to be uploaded as an attachment in MS WORD or PDF format. In case your paper exceeds the word limit, the reviewers will review only the first 4000 words. The review procedure is meant as an opportunity for feedback, not for summative assessment. Therefore, the review process will take place as an open, non blind, process. For further information see paper guidelines.
To submit you full paper please follow the link to the online system. In order to complete your submission, please log in with your EARLI or Conference login ID and password (you have received this in the confirmation E-mail from your first submission). We recommend you to try to login into the system already some days before the deadline of 17 March to make sure that there is still time left to solve possible computer problems.
We must receive your submission no later than March, 17th, 2008. If we have not received your submission by that date, your paper will not be send to reviewers for feedback. After a successful submission, you will receive a confirmation email which also contains important information on the review process in which you will participate as a peer reviewer. If you would decide not to participate in the conference, please inform us as soon as possible, since participants are matched to each other for this peer reviewing.
You will get feedback on your paper from a senior researcher and a PhD student who participates in the 11th JURE Conference.
- Poster Presentations:
When your proposal is accepted as a poster presentation, you are required to create a poster and submit it along with an updated abstract (300 words) which will be published in the conference proceeding until April, 28th, 2008. For further information see the poster guidelines.

You will get feedback on your paper from a PhD student who participates in the 11th JURE Conference according to the poster review criteria.

NOTE: You can find some useful tips and tricks on how to use MS Powerpoint to create you posters here. However the actual plotting information is not applicable as it reserved for KULeuven students and personnel. But the step-by-step guide is useful and relevant.
- Round table discussions:
Contrary to paper sessions, in which the presenters should at least present a finished literature study or should have analyzed and interpreted their data, round tables will give you the opportunity to discuss not only outcomes but also the design of a research project or research in progress. When your proposal is accepted as a round table discussion, you are required to create a hand-out and to submit it along with an updated abstract (300 words) which will be published in the conference proceedings until April, 28th 2008. For further information see the round table guidelines.

Find an example of a round table hand-out here.
NOTE: The round table hand-outs can be considered as mini-posters. You can create your hand-outs using MS Powerpoint (for more info please check the note on the poster section). The MS Powerpoint file can then be saved as .pdf document. Please note that you are required to bring your own copies of your hand-outs for the participants. Thus, in order to reduce the printing cost we suggest that you print the hand-outs in regular paper and in black&white.
- Actively take part in the peer feedback process
As a participant of 11th JURE Conference you are expected to take part in the feedback procedure and to comment on one paper, poster or round table contribution of another conference participant. The paper, poster or hand-out of the round table contribution can be accessed through the conference system at http://conference.earli.org/submissionreview.
You can find the review guidelines for papers here.
Your paper feedback must be sent back before May, 19th, 2008.
Your poster feedback must be sent back before June, 2nd, 2008.
Your round table hand-out feedback must be sent back before June, 2nd, 2008.
- Conference Sessions
- Paper session: A paper session consists of 2 or 3 conceptually linked papers. Each presentation lasts 15 minutes followed by 10 minutes for questions and discussion. If possible, each paper will be discussed by the peer who read and commented on the full paper during the peer feedback process.
- Poster session: Posters are grouped conceptually. Each poster is introduced with a brief oral presentation (max. 3 minutes). After the introductions there is time to individually walk around the posters.
- Round table sessions: Each round table session will consist of 2 or 3 conceptually linked projects. Each presenter has 5 minutes to introduce his/her project and raise one or two open questions. 25 minutes are intended for discussion. Presenters should prepare handouts for the other participants but not a PowerPoint presentation.
Proposals should consist of an abstract (300 words at maximum) and an extended summary (1000 words at maximum, including references). Your proposal will be accepted, rejected or offered an alternative presentation format. The decision will be emailed to you until January, 21st, 2008.
To make sure that we can accept as many proposals as possible, we want to encourage you to choose the most appropriate format for the phase of your research. People who choose the right format will have a bigger chance to get accepted than proposals for which we have to offer an alternative format. Therefor, please keep in mind the following guidelines:
Applying for a paper presentation is only possible if you have a finished literature study or empirical study. This means that you have to show in your proposal that you already are in the stage of interpreting your data. Furthermore, you have to be sure that you will be able to write a full paper before March 17th. During the presentation the focus will be on presenting your results and their is limited time for discussion. For research in progress a poster presentation as well as a round table is a very suitable format. During a round table discussion you will have the chance to discuss in depth your outcomes but also the design of a research projects or research in progress.
The JURE organizing committee will evaluate your proposal according to the proposal review criteria.
Note: It is possible to send in two proposals on different subjects for different presentation formats. When both proposals meet the standard to get accepted, we will offer you to present the highest valued proposal. Only when we have space left in our schedule for extra presentations, we will offer you to present both proposals. In order to submit two proposals you will have to go through the online submission system twice.
